Candle lamps are special types of lights that don't use bulbs. Instead of a bulb, a candle is used for illumination. These lamps provide light but they also add a certain touch of atmosphere you can't get with an electric light. People have used candles for lighting since approximately 300 BC when beeswax candles were believed to have been used in China during the Jin Dynasty. So using them today in lamps harkens back over two millennia, and is a simple and economical way to provide light and ambiance.

Candle lamps can be very simple themselves or they can be elaborate. Some look like actual lamps with bases and shades in which the heat and smoke of the flame goes up through an opening in the top. These are typically designed so that the shade and the candle are far enough apart that the flame does not touch the shade. It should also be made of a fireproof material like glass or metal.
