Unique Gifts - My Guide to Buying Unique Gifts

What makes a gift unique? Well, for the most part – it’s the surprise and “wow” effect it has on the receiver. And how do we choose a gift that is unexpected and at the same time brings both joy and gratitude? We certainly have to bear in mind that we are buying a gift not for ourselves but for someone who may have a completely different taste than ours. So here’s step N1 – choose the gift according to the receiver’s taste and preferences.

After taking some time and doing some thinking, I’ve came to the conclusion that in order to present a unique gift, you need to:

  • As mention above – consider the person’s interests and hobbies. You won’t buy the same things for a hunter and an artist, right?
  • The second thing to consider is the age of the person – a child, an adolescent and an adult will value different things.
  • For a gift to be unique it doesn’t necessarily need to be something fancy. Simplicity, style and a personal touch usually achieve the best result.
  • Here’s something original – look in some vintage stores and choose something special from the year the person was born or perhaps a year, which was very important to him. Again, personalize.
  • If you are looking for a source of inspiration – turn to memories. They always give original ideas and usually the present turns out really special.
  • A gift is also unique and surprising when it’s the exact opposite of what the person was expecting. For example, next time you decide to buy your grandmother a vase for her birthday, why not give her an I-Pod? It’s fun and easy to operate and, I promise you, she doesn’t expect it!

After you’ve read the tips above, I am quite certain that the gifts you will come up with will be both unique and remembered.

Barbeque

The Barbeque Basics

Yes, you’ve heard of it, you’ve seen it and probably have done it yourself – barbeque is a hit activity, not only because it’s tasty and fun, but it’s also healthy. Arranging it will probably drive you out of your home and into the great outdoors and what can be more pleasant than breathing clear fresh air and possibly do some exercise with your family and friends. In fact, barbeque is so popular nowadays, that it has turned into a business.

Now, let’s be clear – when we are talking about barbeque we don’t mean the mere grill and food prepared with it. It is a whole process including a number of various recipes, cooking methods, tools and accessories.

The idea of eating healthy, delicious and fat-free food, most often outdoors, has turned barbeque in a common practice not only in America but all over the world. Barbeque is now part of the western society trend to return back to nature and that makes it even more appealing.

Barbeque is also a way of dealing with a problem, which lately has become alarmingly widespread – the alienation of family and friends. Barbeque gathers everyone and presents a fun opportunity to actually DO something together. Why not try to divide the tasks between people and later, when everybody has done their job and assuming everything goes to plan, you can all enjoy the tasty results of your work while talking and laughing.

To sum it up: barbeque is not only fun, but also a healthy and social activity. So if you have the opportunity – don’t hesitate. Gather people and organize that fun time together.  And one more thing you need to remember – always follow the basic safety barbeque guidelines in order not to threaten your health or damage nature around you.

Have fun and taka care!

Modern Wall Decor

Modern Wall Decor

Modern wall decor is very “in” right now and that’s because it’s not only eye-catching but it’s also one of the easiest ways to decorate your wall. And the reason for that is in the key word for it – “simplicity”.

Naturally, this doesn’t mean that everything simple is beautiful. The idea is that the outside layer or the built structure itself should be a piece of art.

Usually, we choose the right color, paint the wall or apply interesting wallpaper. In modern design though, you don’t need that, because the wall itself is considered a piece of art, which doesn’t need extra pampering for the purpose of decorating.

So how exactly do we fit a modern wall decor in our home/workplace interior?

It’s really easy actually. Look around and consider each wall as a separate piece of art. Consider shape of wall, thickness, wall finishes, openings, height, increasing or decreasing height along the length.

A simple, yet effective trick is a square opening in the wall. It will reduce the visual constraints and thus will give the impression that the room is bigger.

Another great touch is interior lighting, which can easily be experimented with and will contribute to the effect of the modern wall decor.

Peaceful Touch

Peaceful Touch

With our lives today – so busy and stressed – a place, where we can relax and feel comfortable is of utmost importance. Imagine a garden gently filled with the soothing sound of cascading and running water. Sounds like heaven, doesn’t it? This place can be located in your own home thanks to that wonderful decoration – the fountain. Whether it is a tabletop fountain to put next to your favorite armchair or an ornamental garden fountain – the relaxation won’t take long to overtake you with this excellent piece of dеcor.

Let’s have a look at indoor fountains first. That light sound of trickling water gives you the sensation of being outdoors, close to nature and calmness. And excellent decision to contribute to your working environment would be a desktop fountain to put next to your computer or on a bookshelf. The running water not only calms, but also helps purify the air by acting as a natural humidifier. Another variety are the floor or wall fountains, which would be perfect for a hallway or a reception, as they will bring that welcoming atmosphere.

Now let’s consider garden fountains. They go with every kind of garden – large or small, they will always achieve the “aww” effect in their viewers. Pond fountains are simply charming and bird bath fountains can attract some wildlife for extra effect. You can power outdoor garden fountains either by electrical pump or by sun rays. The latter kind is cheaper to maintain and can be moved around each time you want a change if you just keep the solar panel into the sunlight.

If you are looking for the perfect accessory to transform your own garden into a peace of heaven or create a cozy and relaxing atmosphere in your home – search no more. A fountain is just what you need.

How To Use Garden Decor

How To Use Garden Decor

Lots of questions come to your mind when you decide to decorate your garden. How do I make it tasteful? Is this good for my decor? How small should the ornaments be? Isn’t this bird bath decoration too much? Should this trellis go in the back or in the front? …

One simple rule for garden decor is the classic: less is more. You’ve probably seen too many gardens, cluttered with all kinds of accessories, on which their owners have spend tons of money only to achieve… well, nothing.

Plan out things before you start decorating. By using a simple piece of paper and pencil to plan and sketch things before you actually begin building it, will save you a lot of dissatisfaction later. Take it from the interior decorators – they always make a clear plan of what the end result should be before they even begin.

Unleash your imagination but remember to follow the same theme – mixed English garden and Oriental garden elements will certainly not present an eye-pleasing view. You need to think of a theme and create a focal point of your garden.  For a small garden a bird bath would look lovely and for a larger one – s small pond with a mini fountain will contribute perfectly. Don’t overdo it – consider the size of your garden and work with it.

Don’t throw yourself into buying as many garden decor ornaments as you can. Buy one at a time, place it in a chosen spot in the garden and let it blend in. Then go out and decide what the next element should be. This will result in a harmonious garden.

The garden decor will not only be used in front, but also in the back of the house, so it will be a lovely idea to connect those two parts with paths. If you have children or pets – remember to create a space for them to play. A garden can be turned into a piece of heaven, especially if the owner took the time and effort to carefully chose and arrange decor elements and plants. But don’t forget – children and animals need a space to romp. With some extra planning though, you can have both in your garden.
